MyPOI on the web:

My POI (Points Of Interest) originally started out as a small application designed for the Android mobile opperating system.

The idea came from the need for accessing POI's which were stored on a Sat NAV device which often wasn't to hand.

“During the working day I would get instructions to go to a location, the location was the name of a POI, this meant having to dig-out my Sat NAV to give a prediction on journey times.”

So I set about creating MyPOI for Android (Google's operating system) with the intention of storing POI's on the phone which was always to hand.

Over time the Application has become a powerfull tool however limitations of the device meant storing 128,000 POI's was a large challenge along with fact that getting the POI's from my Sat NAV to a format for the phone could use was a problem. Hence along came MyPOI for the web.

What does MyPOI actuall do?

My POI allows you to upload POI files taken from many of the leading Sat NAV devices and stores them in a private database (only you can access your POI's).

My POI also allows you to search for and save POI's using a Google Map, allowing you to build your own POI selection.

You can view all your POI's on a Google Map which you can print, or use many of the popular features, like driving directions. You can also view the map or a satelite image.

You can also export your POI's to a range of formats which can then be used with many of the leading Sat NAV systems.

My POI for the web also has an interface for working with My POI for Android, this allows you to access all of your POI's through either application.
So storing a large number of POI's is no longer a problem for the device as long as you have a data connection you can view POI's which have been imported to your web account.
